perseids shower

is anyone planning to head up into the mountains this weekend to watch the perseids shower ? it's supposed to peak sunday night (12th), which also happens to be a nearly moonless night (it rises shortly before sunrise).

    Saw them in the early 90's from top of Mt Lassen under a moonless sky.
    Can't get much closer to the action without getting bonked on the head by 'em.
    Put it on yer list for next year, it's worth the haul.

      Two years ago some friends and I dd that also and it's one of my most wonderful memories. We started hiking up at 4 am, under the shooting stars, and arrived at the summit in time to watch the sunrise--absolutely fantastic!

    Some friends and I backpacked up to the Hoover Wilderness that weekend and watched the Perseids on Saturday evening. Even though it wasn't the peak time, we had a good show of meteors!

    The winds that evening were pretty strong, though, so most of us didn't watch for longer than an hour.
