I will finally have some time off at the end of September, to return to my beloved emigrant wilderness, but although I'm an experienced fair weather backpacker, I have limited snow camping experience and want to make sure I'm prepared.

So, assuming I check the weather forecast with the ranger station and no snow is predicted, would yall take anything special in case the forecast is wrong. I have the usual summer supplies including a bear can and I have a 0F sleeping bag + good tent. I don't like to take chances in the mountains.

Thanks for your advice.

Just to simply enhance what you normally would take, the length of your trip might limit the amount of x-tra, 'just-in-case' gear you can carry. I would at least take a decent set of long underwear (thats alaskan for 'thermals'), gloves & hat and a good set of rain gear or other waterproof clothing to help stay dry, also extra fire starter to get warmed back up if the temps do drop much. I dont think there is much problem there that time of year but I would try and have a back-up plan and leave my route plan with someone in case things get iffy.
